ABOUT US

Fighting Fear - A Community for Queer People, by Queer People

At Fighting Fear, we invite you to be a part of a community that is uniquely "for Queer people by Queer people." Our mission is rooted in the motto "Fight FEAR and free yourself from anxiety," a message that resonates deeply with our founder's experience while working in a primary care mental health service in West London, UK.

Our Vision:
We envision a global sanctuary where LGBTQ+ individuals, though not exclusively, find the support, knowledge, and connection they seek. In a world often overshadowed by patriarchy, we understand the paramount importance of secure, courageous spaces where we can explore our thoughts, feelings, and identities without judgment.

From Idea to Movement:
What initially started as a mission to address anxiety and fears has blossomed into a full-fledged movement. We're committed to empowering marginalised individuals, helping them surmount the hurdles imposed by the societies they live in. Though our main focus is LGBTQ+ communities, we also support other marginalised groups such as ethnic and religious minorities, sex workers, asylum seekers and refugees, women and others as we understand the importance of seeing social issues through the lens of intersectionality.

What We Offer:
Fighting Fear is dedicated to providing holistic support to individuals, couples, groups, and organisations within the Queer community. We operate with an intersectional approach, ensuring that all your identities and values are acknowledged and celebrated.

Inclusivity:
While our primary focus is to support and work with Queer communities, individuals and organisations, we stand committed to assisting anyone who seeks our guidance or wishes to collaborate with us.

Fighting Fear is your sanctuary, your source of empowerment, and your gateway to a vibrant, accepting community. Join us in the battle against fear and anxiety, and let's walk this empowering journey together.

Meet, Saquib Ahmad

the visionary force behind Fighting Fear, a dynamic LGBTQ+ organisation. Saquib's story is a beautiful tapestry of diverse origins, born into a mixed heritage, blending Pakistani and Mauritian roots. Although Lahore was his place of birth, it was in the vibrant heart of Manchester that he found his home.

Saquib embarked on his journey towards change after earning a BSc in Biomedical Sciences from Cardiff University. A profound shift led him into the world of psychology, where he has since amassed over 15 years of invaluable experience in both statutory and private mental health services. His professional trajectory began with a specialisation in trauma, eventually expanding to co-specialisations that include marginalised communities such as LGBTQI+, Black and Asian, Minority Ethnic groups, and refugee and asylum seeker populations.

Saquib is a double-accredited psychotherapist in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. His commitment extends beyond the clinical realm, as he passionately champions LGBTQ+ rights as an activist, collaborating with various NGOs across Europe to advance mental well-being and equity within our community.

Even with his substantial responsibilities, Saquib continues to maintain a therapy caseload of his own patients. Simultaneously, he offers guidance, training, and a range of services to professionals in the field.

Saquib firmly believes in the transformative power of self-compassion, recognising that it is through compassion that we not only survive but truly thrive. His unwavering dedication to the LGBTQ+ community and mental health advocacy makes Saquib an inspirational leader and an invaluable asset to Fighting Fear. Join us in this empowering journey to uplift, support, and inspire.
