Drag History

The art of drag has been around for centuries, but it wasn't until the 20th century that it became a prominent part of LGBTQ+ culture and empowerment. Drag is the act of dressing up in clothing and makeup that is typically associated with the opposite gender. It is often used as a form of entertainment, but it also has a deep cultural significance for the LGBTQ+ community.

Drag also played a significant role in the LGBTQ+ rights movement. In the 1960s, drag queens were at the forefront of the Stonewall riots, a series of protests against police brutality and discrimination towards the LGBTQ+ community. The riots are considered a turning point in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, and drag queens played a crucial role in the movement.

During this time, drag queens and kings began performing in gay bars and clubs, creating a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals to express themselves. Drag shows became a way for the community to come together and celebrate their identity, and drag performers became icons of LGBTQ+ culture.

Today, drag continues to be an important part of LGBTQ+ / Queer culture and empowerment.

Drag performers use their art to challenge gender norms and stereotypes, and to promote acceptance and inclusivity. Drag shows are still a popular form of entertainment, and they continue to provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals to express themselves.

The drag history is deeply intertwined with LGBTQ+ history and the Quee community. Drag has played a significant role in creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals to express themselves, and it has been a powerful tool in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Today, drag continues to be an important part of LGBTQ+ culture and empowerment, and it serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of the community.
